We are a married family with 3 children.Husband is waiting to hear answer back from S.S.D.I. It looks promising this time.But we have a few more months yet. He is truly disabled but this process takes a while. We have no vehicle and it is difficult to get around in a city which does not have a reliable transportation system. Not to mention no family or friends that are near. My family offered to pay rent for 1 year while husband applied for S.S.D.I. This really helped. But they were under the impression that this process took 6months to a year tops.My family is older and they do not have a lot so it is very hard to know this burden is on them. I applied with Department of Human Services to take a class to help prepare you for employment and to find employment. At this time we had a vehicle. This program paid 13.00 a day plus 420.00 a month. Unfortunately It was during a time when EVERYONE was looking for employment and My skills are limited due to the fact that my husband was the primary wage earner for 10 years until he became disabled. Then our car died in May and I was no longer eligible for any job training classes. You MUST be able to make EVERY class without excuse of child care or transportation to be on ANY cash assistance program and with the non reliability of public transportation here I could not risk being kicked out and not eligible If I was ever in a bad situation WITH a car again. Believe me there is a difference of being poverty strickin with a car than without. Now we have fallen behind on our bills again and 2 churches have been kind enough to help before but now There is NO resource that I have found that helps ANY One in OUR specific situation. 2 out of 4 of our utilites are DISCONNECTED. All our food stamp money went to purchasing WATER. NEXT for us,NO electric. Thats October 17th. If you miss a payment plan you have to pay the entire bill (420.00). Every dime I get from relatives , friends , birthdays , holidays goes to paying off bills. My children suffer but they are too sweet to mention it. I see the disappointment when they cant do the other things their friends can. We DESPERATELY NEED HELP. I have looked for places that donate cars to families like ours. There are none here. You can not get a job without a car. Thats one of the first things the employer wants to know, or the job is not ON a bus line. ALL places on line want money for FREE GRANT money. Money for helping you find unclaimed funds. We are the true poverty in America.If anyone else is going through this any advice of TRUE resources that can help would be greatly appreciated. This is also causing tremendous strain on our marriage and mood. I have also tried the work online but you need certain internet connections OR MONEY to start and NO we do not have a credit card, checking or savings account, or paypal account. Any advice to what to do we are tapped out and desperate.
